Botox Is Not Just For Wrinkles
Botox is not just for wrinkles. We all know that Botox is very effective for reducing wrinkles on our forehead and the smile lines, but in experienced hands, did you know it has a myriad of other uses that you haven’t heard of?
- Soften the jawline. Softening the jawline can provide for a more feminine silhouette - this is very appealing to women who have genetically more square jaw (or maybe even teeth-grinder!) - it is a quick and easy fix and the results are visible within a few days. The results, which typically last for 6 months to up to a year, can also have other positive effects, like making your cheeks appear more lifted and relieving the pain and soreness that can result from teeth grinding.
- Lessen the appearance of jowls and constant “sad” face. Botox can also be used to correct a persistent “sad” face (or even RBF?) and help lessen the appearance of heavy jowls. This occurs when gravity takes it toll and the muscles that pull down the sides of the mouth become too strong (occurs as we age). If your jawline has become less defined and you’d like to see a little lift, a little Botox along the muscles of the jawbone can pull the skin up for a crisp, defined effect.
- Treat a “gummy” smile. Do you have a gummy smile? Botox can fix this too. Excessive gingival display, or a “gummy smile” as it is more commonly called, is a cosmetic condition that occurs when the upper gums are too prominent when smiling. Those who suffer from the condition may feel self-conscious about the way their smile looks, and although many dentists and orthodontists offer treatment to relieve a gummy smile, many of these procedures are surgical and therefore very invasive and expensive. Botox into the muscles on the face can relax and lift the lips, and the lips can begin to cover up the gums. Lots can go wrong here including giving the patient a mouth droop so make sure your injector is experienced in this type of procedure and placement.
